Meet Abena — The First Barima Scholar

Abena, 14, lives in Drobonso with her grandmother, a petty trader. She scored in the top 5% of her class in the BECE mock exams. But her grandmother could not afford the GHS 1,200 needed for school fees, books, and a uniform. Then Barima Foundation found her. Today, Abena is a Barima Scholar. She has her books, her uniform, and her dream of becoming a nurse is alive again. 'I want to come back to Kumawu and help my community,' she says. 'Barima Foundation gave me that chance.' Abena is one of 50 students who will receive scholarships this year. With your support, we can reach 200 by Year 3.
